About

Patricia Shea is an independent art advisor, appraiser, and curator whose career has been shaped by decades of direct engagement with artists, galleries, collectors, and the international art market.
Before founding Shea Art Advisory, Patricia owned galleries in New York and Los Angeles. That experience continues to inform her eye, her judgment, and her understanding of how artists’ work and markets develop over time.
She works with new and established collectors, estates, fiduciaries, and institutions on acquisitions, collection development, appraisals, and complex art projects. Her approach combines rigorous research, firsthand market knowledge, and a close understanding of each client’s interests and goals. At the center of her work is a belief that the strongest collections are built over time—through curiosity, discernment, and an individual point of view.
Patricia’s estate work has included major art collectors, artists, and influential gallery owners, giving her firsthand experience with collections that carry both market and historical significance.
Throughout her career, Patricia has worked directly with artists to realize commissions, site-specific projects, and complex installations. Her experience with video and time-based media grew out of managing client collections that included these works and addressing the particular requirements of their acquisition, installation, documentation, conservation, and long-term preservation.
Patricia earned her BA from New York University, pursued graduate studies at Columbia University, and completed NYU’s Appraisal Studies program. She is an Accredited Member of the Appraisers Association of America. Her appraisal practice encompasses insurance, charitable donation, estate and tax planning, financial planning, and lending purposes. Her valuation work draws upon private-market knowledge as well as auction research and is grounded in independent judgment and current USPAP standards.
She has lectured and participated in panels on Post-War and Contemporary Art, valuation, media art, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies in the art market.
